About Tewwy

We Envision a World Where Elderly Women's Wisdom is Being Tapped to Take on Some of the World's Most Critical Issues, Through a Response Driven Community Network

Tap Elderly Women’s Wisdom for Youth is a Nongovernmental Organization based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania that is working to document and share the wisdom of elderly women, to meet the needs of undeserved communities.  Through tapping into the power of story telling, mobile technology, one-on-one support and life skills building, we work with the community to identify & develop the people, tools and content they need to create the change they want to see.

Why the focus on Wisdom?

As the Chinese philosopher Laozi stated, “Those who understand others are clever, those who understand themselves are wise.” Our focus on tapping into stories and truth sharing comes from a belief that instead of advice giving, people hold the power to other people to tap change their own lives. We use wisdom as a tool to inspire and empower  into their own intuition to make the best decision for their physical, emotional & social wellbeing.

What is the problem we are trying to solve?

  • Inadequate social support & mental health services/resources to promote the emotional, physical and social wellness of both elderly women and other underserved communities
  • Inadequate recognition & engagment of elderly women/intergenerational teams in providing support structures and wisdom resources for underserved communities

What is Our Solution?

  • Creating a Support and Connection Building Network with our partner CSOs, informal groups, change makers and influencers, called the Hekima Network that applies TEWWY’s 4 Wisdom Markers to Promote Physical, Emotional and Social Wellbeing amongst underserved communities
  • Building Wisdom Resources and Facilitating Wisdom Exchange for Intergenerational & Intercultural Groups
